Lawrence Mills Adaptive Reuse

The design concept for this mixed use housing development on a former textile mill building site integrates its industrial history with a modern perspective.

Familiar materials such as concrete, painted asphalt, unit pavers, granite, core ten steel and galvanized steel are used in unexpected ways to create a distinctive urban landscape. Taking cues from the existing industrial fabric, landscape materials will take on a new life to animate livable and safe urban spaces. Reclaimed artifacts such as steel turbine wheels will be incorporated into the landscape to further strengthen the unique identity of the site. Planted infiltration swales in parking areas mitigate surface runoff, enable groundwater recharge, and provide habitat pockets for wildlife. This project is anticipated to be a LEED certified project.
